Citizen Scandal: Dog Daddy Throws $10,000 Bark Mitzvah

Compared to the money spent on bat mitzvahs for the daughters of arm dealers, the $10,000 Dr. David Best dropped on his loved one’s rite of passage seems kind of reasonable. Except it was for his dog.

Elvis Best’s “bark mitzvah,” held last August, was attended by more than thirty of father’s friends (including Dr. Ruth and Patti LuPone. The festivities, held at Sammy’s Roumanian Steakhouse, featured many traditional moments—including the reading of the torah—and plenty of dancing. Elvis even got a Louis Vuitton dog collar as a gift.

Before you rush to judge the doctor, it might be best to let Elvis explain his journey for himself.
