Run-D.M.C., Metallica nominated for Rock Hall
CLEVELAND - Run-D.M.C. could “Walk This Way” into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 1980s rap act, along with Metallica and the Stooges are among the nine nominees for next year’s hall of fame class, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced Monday. The five leading vote-getters will be announced in January and inducted April 4, 2009, in Cleveland.

The 60th annual Emmy Awards on Sunday night honored low-rated cable series and earned low ratings to match: ABC’s three-hour broadcast averaged 12.2 million viewers, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates, slightly below the record low set in 1990, when Fox averaged 12.3 million. Last year’s broadcast, then the second-lowest and also on Fox, earned 13 million.
Il Divo’s fifth CD, The Promise, arrives Nov. 18 (pre-order on Amazon.com at $14). The singing group, which has a new long-term deal with concert promoter Live Nation, will launch a world tour in February.
Hootie’s Rucker tops country chart
Before this week, only two black singers had topped the country singles charts: Ray Charles and Charley Pride. Now, Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker joins that exclusive list, as his Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It goes No. 1 on USA TODAY’s country singles airplay chart. Rucker says he’ll continue to perform with Hootie, “but as far as gigs and touring, I’m concentrating on this.” At some point, Hootie will record another album, “and I’m down for that, if the timing’s right. But I’m a country singer. That’s what I am now.”
Red Roof Inns Teams Up With Country Music Artists
The budget lodging chain seeks to capitalize on the popularity of country music among its customers. THE latest recordings by a couple of popular country music acts will never hit the Billboard charts but, to paraphrase the title of a song from the movie “Nashville,” it don’t worry them. That’s because the recordings - by the singer Phil Vassar and the group Little Big Town - were made on behalf of Red Roof Inn, a leading budget lodging chain. As part of a multimedia campaign, the voices of Mr. Vassar and the members of Little Big Town can be heard when guests at Red Roof motels ask for wake-up calls or potential guests are placed on hold when calling to book rooms.

Kanye West has hand in puppet pilot
Comedy Central has teamed with Kanye West for a project described as hip-hop meets the Muppets. A half-hour pilot has been shot for the project, tentatively titled “Alligator Boots.” It’s from Jackhole Prods., the production company founded by Jimmy Kimmel, Daniel Kellison and Adam Carolla that also was behind Comedy Central’s puppet-centric “Crank Yankers.”

After just 14 months on Island Def Jam, Janet Jackson announced today (Sept. 22) her departure from the label. According to Jackson’s publicist, the label agreed to dissolve their relationship with the artist at her request.

Country star Taylor Swift’s “White Horse,” a song from her forthcoming sophomore album, “Fearless,” will be featured in the two-hour season premiere of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” on Thursday (Sept. 25).
