Lindsay Lohan’s dad offers to box with highest bidder for charity
Who wants to knock out Michael Lohan? Well, Lindsay for starters. The Hollywood dad-gone-bad - who insists he’s trying to do good - is offering to step into the boxing ring with the highest bidder and donate all the money to Long Island charities. “This is not about publicity,” Lohan told the Daily News before heading to the gym to get in fighting form for the Nov. 24 match at the Hilton Long Island in Melville, L.I.
The tunes they are a-changin on Bob Dylan
BOB DYLAN. “Tell Tale Signs: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8″ (Columbia/Legacy) Bob Dylan never sets his songs in stone. He prefers to treat them like wet clay, open to all the impressions whim and inspiration can bring. Anyone who has seen Dylan live knows the thrill, and the exasperation, of this. Pace, arrangement, and even the essential melody of a song shape-shift tour by tour, leaving fans feeling like they’re playing the world’s trickiest game of “Name That Tune,” even during songs they think they know well.
Tenants fearful over sale of hip hop’s home on Sedgwick Ave.
The west Bronx apartment complex dubbed the Birthplace of Hip Hop was sold last week to real estate developer Mark Karasick for a reported $7 million. The apartment complex rose to fame in August 1973 after DJ Kool Herc, aka Clive Campbell, and his sister threw a house party that gave rise to the now popular music genre and culture.
SUPERSTAR composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has amassed a fortune of $1.3 billion - but the “Phantom of the Opera” creator doesn’t plan to pass any of the money along to his five children. Instead, he wants to use the dough to help budding composers and singers. “I am not in favor of children’s suddenly finding a lot of money coming their way, because then they have no incentive to work,” Lloyd Webber tells London’s Mirror. And he claims his kids are fine with that: “They aren’t bothered. They don’t think that way. It is about having a work ethic. I don’t believe in inherited money at all.”
MADONNA better not take her act to Alaska. At one point during the US kickoff of her “Sticky and Sweet” tour at the Meadowlands Saturday night, the Material Mom indulged her Republican-hating ways, shouting, “Sarah Palin can’t come to my party. Sarah Palin can’t come to my show. It’s nothing personal.” Then the kabbalah queen told the crowd, “Here’s the sound of Sarah Palin’s husband’s snowmobile when it won’t start,” followed by a loud screeching noise.
BROOKLYN Beckham has good taste in music. The 9-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham has been visiting the Color Me Mine ceramics studio in Beverly Hills to make pottery - and each time, his mom brings along Beatles albums to play. One time it was “Magical Mystery Tour,” another time “Rubber Soul.” A spy overheard Victoria - a k a Posh Spice - telling an employee, “Brooklyn just loves The Beatles. Can’t get him to listen to any of my records, though!”
A BIT of Hollywood is coming to Queens politics. Michael Den Dekker, who plays a Legal Aid lawyer in Spike Lee’s preachy war flick “Miracle at St. Anna,” is running unopposed for a seat in the 34th Assembly District, which represents Woodside and Jackson Heights, where Den Dekker was born. The onetime city sanitation worker and father of four, who had roles in “Meet Dave” and “The Happening,” also appears in the upcoming “You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Kills You,” about a serial killer knocking off hip-hop stars.
MIAMI - Legendary motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel never denied his scrapes with the law - but he objected to a 1970s FBI claim he was involved in a string of beatings. According to documents obtained by The Associated Press, the federal government came close to charging Knievel, who in turn threatened to sue the FBI for alleging he was connected to a crime syndicate.
HE’S GOT THE WHOLE WORLD ON HIS MIND
‘I love Lou Reed so much. He’s one of my best friends.” You don’t often hear those words referring to the curmudgeonly rock star, but for Antony Hegarty, the lead singer of Antony and the Johnsons, the sentiment is heartfelt. Antony and the Johnsons’ new album, “The Crying Light,” is due in January. “This next album represents six years of songwriting,” the singer tells The Post. “My process tends to be a quite detail-oriented, kind of like brushing your hair a million times.”
Beatles lover who finds it remarkable how one band crafted so many songs that attached to the soul will appreciate Oasis’ skill at making new music that smartly salutes them. It’s easy to scream that Oasis are Fab Four copycats, but “Dig Out Your Soul,” released today on Reprise, totally illustrates how the band references the Lennon/McCartney songbook with playfulness rather than plagiarism.

Oasis: Over the top but under the radar
A dozen years ago, a Rolling Stone cover trumpeted “Oasis have conquered America, and they won’t shut up about it.” “Liam still takes the rivalry thing a bit seriously,” says Noel, 41. “It’s real with him. I do tend to annoy him a great deal. I don’t mind that. When we get off tour, the last thing I want is to have dinner with Liam, after having dinner with him 365 nights. I’ve got another life outside Oasis. We’re not 21 anymore. We’re not The Monkees.”
