Daryl Hannah and 31 of her closest protester-friends were arrested yesterday after obstructing a coal mine in West Virginia. Hannah and hundreds of others were attending a rally to protest the mountaintop removal mining and coal storage of Massey Energy Co. The company is responsible for blasting the tops off of mountains to mine for coal. After obstructing the road that the coal plant sits on, Hannah and the others were cited for impeding traffic and obstructing an officer.
Hannah is well-known for her environmentalism and has a blog devoted to her causes. This is not her first scuffle with the law either; she was arrested in LA in 2006 for protesting the destruction of an urban farm. [Source: SFGate; Photo: WENN]
