Last night, your faithful Scandalistas curled up on their respective couches and took in a commercial-free hour of Britney Spears: For The Record. Tears were shed during the “documentary” (on both our end and Britney’s) and we marveled at what a sad, sweet mess Brit is. Who knew a comeback could be so heartbreaking?
While our heroine came off as apologetic, unassuming, likable and woefully naive (”people shave their heads everyday”), sources close to the shrewd star claim that ulterior motives — besides just telling her story — could have driven the Brit to make the film. “This documentary was as much about a preemptive strike about [her father's] conservatorship if it fails, and making Larry look good if she doesn’t.”
The source also claims that while Jamie Spears has totally revamped his baby girl’s life, “there’s always the possibility that his best efforts won’t work when it comes to letting her have the career she wants, and that shouldn’t be pinned on Britney … If she fails, she doesn’t want it to look like it was her fault.” [MSNBC]
