Do You Smell Fierce…Or Sasha Fierce?

Amidst the shocking moments and outlandish performances at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards was some glitzy and glamorous fashion. Metallic frocks dominated the arrivals, with Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Leighton Meester rockin’ silver and gold. Keri Hilson looked impossibly bangin’ in a satin jumpsuit and Beyonce flaunted her curves in a ruffly scarlet number. Peep our Top 10 countdown to see which artists, actors, and reality stars ruled the Radio City red carpet. [Photos: Getty Images]
As the Knowles sisters take on Japan to promote the Samantha Thavasa & Disney Collection, the sexy siblings have been dressing less than chic. Yesterday at the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, Solange wore an XXL white shirt with a ruffled pink skirt, while sis Beyonce sported a denim-inspired dress. While both looked gorgeous from the neck-up, we’re torn who looked worse south of their shoulders. [Photos: Getty Images]

Madonna is set to perform at this year’s X-Factor show, according to a new report. The annual talent-search is kicking off on British TV next month, and host Simon Cowell is determined that he’s going to sign up the pop superstar to make an appearance, as well as Lady Gaga and Beyonce again.
After her return to London on the Sticky and Sweet tour — which got five star reviews—- Madonna would no doubt bring the house down, and be about a billion times better than Britney’s disastrous performance last year. [Photo: Splash News Online]
Kicking off the North American leg of her world tour at Madison Square Garden last night, Beyonce and her alter-ego Sasha Fierce — not to mention a mind-blowing number of costume changes — proved that they’re putting on the biggest pop music spectacle of the summer. But in terms of sheer sex appeal, Beyonce has some stiff competition from singer/model Ciara, who performed in London earlier this month and will play U.S. venues in July. Check pics of both R&B goddesses showing off a ton of leg on stage, and then let us know who looks hotter.

The night is young but already we have contenders for Sexiest Couple of the 81st Annual Academy Awards: Slumdog co-stars Dev Patel and Freida Pinto; John Legend and his Thai-Norwegian model-girlfriend; and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie all look stunning. We also have contenders for Most Hideous Outfits, including Miley Cyrus and Beyonce.

Pop stars collect alter egos like Mariah Carey collects shoes — there’s gotta be one for every mood. Beyonce, for example, is using “Sasha Fierce” to experiment with a harder hip-hop sound without alienating her R&B fans. “Hannah Montanah” (aka Miley Cyrus) used the angry love song “7 Things” to destroy her Disneyesque image. And even foul-mouthed Eminem felt compelled to create Slim Shady before unleashing his most violent verbal assaults. On the flip side, there’s bands like Kiss and artists like Marilyn Manson. Are their alter egos the Gothic personas they’ve created? Or have they embodied these personas for so long that they’ve ceased to be alter egos at all? Now we’ve confused ourselves. Just watch the vids …
Beyonce, “Diva”

Look who we just spotted enjoying President Barack Obama’s (!!!) inauguration! It’s Diddy, Beyonce, and a dude in a giant fur hat. Oh wait, that’s Jay-Z, sporting the first fashion faux pas of the Inauguration. We almost gave that title to Aretha Franklin’s bow hat, but she rocked it too hard to deserve a diss, even if that bow almost did eat her head.
Also spotted: Oprah Winfrey, Adrien Grenier, Rachel Leigh Cook, Sting, Trudie Styler, Spike Lee, Denzel Washington, Anne Hathaway, the Bush twins, Malia and Sasha Obama, and of course our new President Obama and Vice President Biden with their wives Michelle and Jill! When Barack Obama promised change, we didn’t realize that bringing great entertainment to political events was part of the deal. But … wow! The “We Are One” concert on Sunday kicked off with Bruce Springsteen performing “The Rising” with a full gospel choir and ended with Beyonce belting out “America the Beautiful.” Sandwiched in between were performers like Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Jon Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Usher, Shakira, John Mellencamp and U2 — not to mention actors/speakers like Denzel Washington, Forest Whitaker, Marisa Tomei, Jack Black, Steve Carell, Rosario Dawson, Jamie Foxx and Tom Hanks. Double wow!
And the parties spreading out in Washington D.C. continue — from the Latino inaugural gala (Marc Anthony performed, J.Lo in tow) to the “Declare Yourself” inaugural kick-off event (yes, Lindsay Lohan and Sam Ronson are still an item.) to Young Jeezy’s “Presidential Status Inauguration Ball,” where a shirtless T.I. pumped up the crowd. Check out the pics below to see some of the action, and keep up with today’s events at VH1’s Live Inauguration Blog.
The celebrity blogger and tireless self-promoter Perez Hilton is bringing his brand of manic-mouthed commentary to Liverpool, where he’ll serve as digital host of the MTV Europe Music Awards on Nov. 6. Not one to mince words, Perez says “if Amy Winehouse isn’t dead by then, I’m going to bring her out of rehab and we’re going to f*ck shit up.”
The real host of the night is singer Katy Perry, who is a nominee for Best New Act — a category in which she was beat out by Tokio Hotel at the American version of the show last month. Performers include Beyonce, Duffy, Pink, Kid Rock and The Killers. After the jump, read a list of this year’s nominees and visit MTV’s Europe Music Awards website to cast your votes.
