Beyonce And Lady Gaga Head Up VMA Nominations

beyonce-lady-gaga

The MTV Video Music Award nominations are in and pop starlets Beyonce and Lady Gaga lead the way with nine nominations each. “I’m excited and honored to be tied for most nominated for the VMAs,” Beyoncé said. “I’ve been blessed this year to have ‘Single Ladies’ become a video people really connected with and responded to. I’ve spent so much time watching all the great versions people created all around the world. It’s beautiful to feel you touch people and bring a song to life with a video.”

Lady Gaga attributed her success to “years of hustle in New York City” and stated, “We believe in the immensity and the promise of ’showbiz’ and will continue to give it mouth-to-mouth, till its vomiting return. All you need is a camcorder, a flashlight and one truly great idea. Thank you, MTV, for being our video flagship, and for supporting this bunch of inspired kids, who love to get wasted and make art together.”

Britney Spears followed right behind Beyonce and Lady Gaga with seven nominations for her “Womanizer” and “Circus’ videos. Other nominations include:

Video of the Year: Beyoncé (”Single Ladies [Put a Ring on It]“), Lady Gaga (”Poker Face”) and Britney Spears  (”Womanizer”) will compete with Eminem (”We Made You”) and Kanye West (”Love Lockdown”).

Best New Artist: Drake (”Best I Ever Had”), 3OH!3 (”Don’t Trust Me”), Kid Cudi (”Day ‘N’ Nite”) and Asher Roth (”I Love College”).

Best Male Video: Eminem (”We Made You”) against Ne-Yo (”Miss Independent”), Kanye West (”Love Lockdown”), T.I. and Rihanna (”Live Your Life”), and Jay-Z (”D.O.A. [Death of Auto-Tune]“).

Best Female Video: Lady Gaga (”Poker Face”), Beyoncé (”Single Ladies [Put a Ring on It]“), Katy Perry (”Hot N Cold”), Kelly Clarkson (”My Life Would Suck Without You”), Taylor Swift (”You Belong With Me”) and Pink (”So What”).

Be sure to tune in to the awards show, hosted by Russell Brand, September 13th at 9 pm E.T. on MTV. [Source: MTV.com, Photo: Getty Images]

Eminem Bites Back Against Mariah’s Video

Uh oh - Eminem is fighting back against Mariah Carey’s recent beef-filled video for her single “Obsession” with a new track dissing the diva, and while it’s a bit harsh, it’s sure to remind us all that the dude’s still got talent. One point for Slim Shady! In “The Warning,” Em declares, “now I’m pissed off” and raps, “I got the exact same tattoo that’s on Nick’s back, I’m obsessed now, oh gee, is that supposed to be me in the video with the goatee? Wow Mariah, didn’t expect you to go balls out. Bitch shut the f*ck up.”

And that’s just the beginning of the expletive-riddled track. Em also drops hints about sexy pictures that he has of the star and then ends the song by including never before heard clips from their “studio session” together. Listen above. Be warned, the language is seriously NSFW.  Also, see pics below of Mariah mocking Eminem while shooting her video for “Obsessed.” [via DListed]

Mariah In Full Diva Mode For “Obsessed” Video

Mariah Carey used The Plaza Hotel in NYC to film her music video for “Obsessed” today. The new single from her just-released album, Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel, hits back at Eminem for claiming the two had a six-month long affair (and for calling her an “[effing] whore”). From the pictures it’s unclear how the video relates to the rapper or their beef, but it’s not too hard to see how people could “obsess” over the diva in general. This is quintessential Mariah: Sculpted legs in full display under a short dress, long windblown locks, frothing fans loitering in the background, ginormous heels and more than a little cleavage. MTV Movie Awards: Eminem Vs. Bruno - Was It Real?

If you weren’t tuned in to the MTV Movie Awards tonight you missed a real treat - and no, we’re not talking about Robert Pattinson. Bruno - the latest character performed by Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen - came down from the ceiling decked out in some white feathery number to deliver the Best Male Performance award. Instead, he awkwardly landed his ass on top of Eminem’s face, which caused the rapper to have a curse-filled hissy fit before storming out of the show with his crew, who also threw a few punches in Bruno’s direction.

The drama is trending high on Twitter and Google Trends, with everyone asking: was the altercation a brilliantly staged bit between Em and Sasha, or did the rapper really freak out? Ryan Seacrest is insisting via Twitter that it was absolutely real. “If u saw the fight at mtv movie awards betwen eminem and “bruno” I am told it was real and em’s crew left the show,” he writes. The guys over at Gawker, however, think the whole thing was staged.

Real or fake, it kicked ass - and completely threw Best Male Performance winner Zac Efron for a loop. Watch the clip above and let us know what you think - real or fake?

Eminem Apologizes To Nick Cannon?

eminem, mariah & nick cannon

Well, this was unexpected. Normally when a celeb calls Eminem out for insulting them, the rapper responds with even worse language. But after his attack on Mariah Carey inspired a threatening blog rant from Nick Cannon, Slim Shady actually seems to regret the hatorade! Here’s what he told a British radio DJ last weekend.

As a kid [I liked Mariah], definitely. With the song “Bagpipes From Baghdad,” there’s a line on there, I mean, I kinda spazzed out on that record but I guess I spazzed out on every record. There’s a line on there that was a little harsh, you know, it’s a harsh line… but you know man, the way I look at it, I said it, I had no idea he was going to take it like he took it. I had no idea Nick Cannon was gonna start wildin’ out on me. No pun intended. I heard about some of the things he was saying, I didn’t read his blog or anything. It is what it is, he’s supposed to defend his wife. I expected him to do that. But at the end of the day, it’s a line I said, but I meant to say is I wish them the best.

As in “Nick Cannon you prick, I wish you luck with the f—ing whore?” And was he a kid when he alleged to have urinated on Mariah? Once Nick finds out Em’s friend DJ Whoo Kid is calling their relationship “the first R. Kelly situation,” we’ll expect a new blog post shortly.

Mariah Carey Is So Precious

Clad in purple, Mariah Carey arrives at the Nice airport sans hubby Nick Cannon, who recently took to his blog to defend his wife against insults made by her rumored former lover Eminem. Mariah is in town to join co-stars such as Lenny Kravitz at the Palais de Festivals at the Cannes Film Festival today for her film Precious, in which Mariah plays a social worker trying to help an illiterate New York teenager who is pregnant with her father’s baby. Precious is a contender in the Un Certain Regard competition, which recognizes unusual and original films. [Photo: Getty Images]

Eminem And Jonathan Ross Geek Out Together

eminem-jonathan-ross

Eminem and Jonathan  Ross. By day they’re controversy-laden stars, with Eminem reigniting his very ungentlemanly attacks on Mariah Carey and Jonathan resuscitating his presenting career after Russell Brand and Sachsgate. But by night they’re just two 13-year-old comic book geeks. The unlikely pair hit it off after Jonathan interviewed him for his BBC chat show (to be aired this Friday) and spent time together at J.Ross’s house after the recording to get all excited about their shared love of graphic novels.

“Had great fun with the guests and Eminem came back to mine to look at comics. I have an awful lot of comics. I gave him Avengers#3 from my own collection. I knew he needed it. He’s a big Marvel fan. We buy from the same comic book dealer in the States,” Jonathan twittered.

Aw. We love new showbiz BFFs. And the love-in didn’t end there. Jonathan breathlessly twittered that Em had invited him to his album launch party in Detroit next week but he couldn’t make it, so gave it away to a fellow Tweeter. Look out for the incredibly overexcited fan sticking out like a sore thumb when it happens! [Photos:  Splash News Online]

The Eminem-Nick Cannon Feud Gets Pissy

eminem, mariah carey & nick cannon

First Eminem rapped about alleged ex Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon (”You prick, I wish you luck with the f—— whore”). Then Cannon wrote a long, ridiculous rant on his blog about whether to respond to “Slim Lamey,” who must be a racist to talk about Carey like that—”Miss Marshall, I’m going to make you wish you never spoke my name and regret the ungodly things you said about my wife.” After the comment box blew up, Nick deleted the post. Too bad it was already cached!

While Eminem has yet to comment, an old radio interview with DJ Whoo Kid and 50 Cent where the rapper claims he once urinated on Mariah has surfaced on the web. Will Nick ignore it or once again demand Eminem “holler at [him] on some grown man s—?” And where will Spongebob Squarepants and Stewie Griffin side on this beef?

Listen to Eminem’s interview after the jump.

Grammy Album Of The Year Nominees: Can Anyone Break The Fogey’s Curse?

Wow! Coldplay, Ne-Yo, Lil’ Wayne and Radiohead: what fresh, hip nominees for the Album Of The Year Grammy award! Sure, old-timey faves Robert Plant & Alison Krauss are up too, but there’s a four out of a five chance something enjoyed by young people will win, right? Not if the Fogey’s Curse has anything to say about it.

It’s not that the Grammys never reward edgy, contemporary artists (Outkast took Album Of The Year in 2004 and Lauryn Hill won ten years ago). It’s just that when too many young’uns are nominated, it tends to split the cool vote, leaving one glaring option for all the old folks in the voting pool. Here are some of the more notorious examples of the Fogey’s Curse.

  • Beck, “The New Pollution” (from Odelay)

In 1997, The Fugees represented the best in hip-hop. The Smashing Pumpkins represented the best in rock. Beck represented the best in alternative. The Waiting To Exhale soundtrack (featuring Mary J. Blige) represented the best in R&B. Naturally, they all lost to Celine Dion.
