Not Safe For Work

In a move worthy of a dramatic nighttime medical soap opera, people are accusing Katherine Heigl of trying to upstage her co-star Ellen Pompeo by revealing her adoption details on the same day that Pompeo pooped out her new baby. A source familiar with both actresses said that Heigl’s adoption of 10-month-old Naleigh, which was made public on September 15, was planned to detract from Pompeo’s baby delivery. “It was very curious timing for her to drop that. It was an adopted kid — she could have chosen any other day to make it public. Why compete?” the source said.

Then Pompeo announced her baby’s birth yesterday, the same day that Heigl’s People magazine cover was released. Is it all a coincidence that the crew at Seattle Grace have baby fever, or are they really that competitive? Outspoken Katherine Heigl is getting a taste of her own medicine from her former colleagues, Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen. After Knocked Up came out, Heigl said of the film, “It’s a little sexist…It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as goofy, fun-loving guys.” It’s been two years since she made that statement, but ironically in that time she’s also made a bunch of garbage that’s far worse for women and far less funny than Knocked Up. (27 Dresses, anyone?)

Rogen and Apatow were on Howard Stern this week and finally got a chance to respond to Heigl. Rogen told Stern, “I gotta say, it’s not like we’re the only people she said some bats–t crazy things about. That’s kind of her bag now,” while Apatow made fun of her role in The Ugly Truth (where Heigl plays an uptight woman facing off against a goofy, fun-loving guy…say whaaa?), saying, “I hear there’s a scene where she’s wearing underwear with a vibrator in it, so I’d have to see if that was uplifting for women.” Advantage, Team Apatow. We really want to like Katherine Heigl, seriously. We loved her in Knocked Up and, hello, she was in the Gerard Depardieu classic My Father the Hero. But just like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet, she keeps saying things that make us cringe and it’s starting to be too much for us to take. Heigl has always been obnoxiously vocal about her role on Grey’s Anatomy (like when she withdrew her name from Emmy consideration last year because she didn’t think the writers gave her character a good storyline), and this week she’s continuing the bitch-fest we’ve come to expect from her.

While visiting The Late Show with David Letterman on Monday, Heigl told Dave, “Our first day back was Wednesday and it was — I’m going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them — a 17-hour day, which I think is cruel and mean.” Boo hoo? Some people work 17-hour days and don’t make $16 million a year, so…

Heigl told Letterman that despite the long hours, working on the show isn’t so bad, although she misses her BFF, T.R. Knight. “All my friends are there and at this point, they’re sort of like family, but it was a little weird because [T.R.]’s not there anymore.” What horrible thing will happen to Katherine next? Seems like if you’re a co-star of Jennifer Aniston’s, you’re immediately linked to her romantically (see: Bradley Cooper, Vince Vaughn). Aniston and her current co-star in The Bounty, Gerard Butler, have denied a romance but Butler, appearing on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, finally came clean about it.

Butler, who was on the talk show to promote his film The Ugly Truth, poked fun at the media spectacle surrounding him and Aniston. “We’re very much in love,” he joked. “Especially her. We’re actually going to tie the knot next Tuesday. And then on Saturday, I’m marrying Cameron Diaz. Joan Rivers will be the next weekend.” Hee.

Some celebrities roll out of bed looking flawless. We’re looking at you, Jessica Alba and Beyonce. Other Hollywood glamazons, like Heidi Montag and  Katherine Heigl, need the aid of some concealer, mascara, and lipstick to push them to camera-ready status. And for those stars who aren’t naturally radiant, the paparazzi show no mercy. They’ll relentlessly snap photos of celebs exiting a gym, finishing a triathlon, or disembarking from a transcontinental flight. These unflattering shots end up all over the gossip rags, making us commoners feel better about the bags under our eyes and less-than-perfect skin. Take a gander at Hollywood’s hottest ladies in the buff. Cosmetically speaking.

Katherine Heigl continues to provide more fodder for her haters. The actress was just apparently dropped from the cast of the upcoming flick Valentine’s Day, after she demanded an enormous paycheck for her part. An insider reveals, “Producers at New Line originally had Katherine on their casting list. They wanted her for the project, but during the talks, she came back demanding $3 million for the role.”

Producers supposedly would not dish over the dough due to the large ensemble cast, in which there’s no lead role. The crew of actors includes such A-Listers as Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Anne Hathaway and Bradley Cooper, but “no other actors asked for nearly that amount.”

Heigl, who’s responsible for one of the worst romantic comedies of all-time (27 Dresses), is insisting she bailed on the movie, but not because of money issues. Her rep called the story “ludicrous,” and says she “walked away from this project for multiple reasons.”  [Photo: GettyImages]
