The best/worst movie remake ever? Music impresario Simon Cowell plans to remake legendary ‘70’s dance flick Saturday Night Fever. The TV judge has been locked down in intense negotiations with producer Robert Stigwood, who owns the rights, and has apparently convinced him to let him at it. Gah!

“Robert was keen to get some assurances the original wouldn’t be completely butchered before he agreed to the deal. Simon has been drawing up a list of people he wants to get involved. When that meets Robert’s expectations, the contracts will be signed,” says The Sun.

Chris Brown and Usher cheered an Orlando Magic game two weeks ago, and now Rihanna is rooting courtside for the Lakers. Coincidence? It wouldn’t be the first time she timed a public appearance in contrast to Brown’s activities. Maybe the singer’s trying to keep her ex from showing up when the games head back to Florida. We’ll find out tomorrow night!

Both casts of High School Musical and Twilight strutted their stuff on the red carpet of last night’s MTV Movie Awards. The Twilight crew nonchalantly took home a ton of awards, while the High Schoolers flaunted serious style skills with their glamorous looks. What group was more red carpet ready? You tell us!

Fans of nudity (that’ll be everyone, then), you won’t have long to wait. Vanessa Hudgens has said she will take her clothes off for a role in the future. The High School Musical star has already had a taste of naked controversy when some risqué photos of her sent to BF Zac Efron were leaked to the media a couple years back. But this hasn’t put her off.

“I will show nudity in a film when the time is right. Right now, I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it, but like I said, when the time’s right, if it’s an amazing movie that I’m really passionate about and that’s what it calls for, then we’ll see,” she said.

While we understand why she wouldn’t want to limit herself for any roles in the future — and stripping off has hardly done the likes of Kate Winslet any harm — we find it kind of depressing and predictable that starlets wanting to be taken seriously as actors think they can only do it by flashing the flesh in an “arty” way. Did Zac Efron drop out of the Footloose remake because he couldn’t bear another screamy premiere? We wouldn’t blame him if he did. In London last night for the premiere of his latest offering 17 Again, the predictable hysterical hordes of teen girls got themselves into a right state, one even being attended to by a paramedic. The film hardly gathered the cream of London celebrity either, with X-Factor rejects, soap actresses and glamor models making up the more famous guests. And doesn’t Zac look thrilled to be there (see the gallery below). Oh dear. Like our other reluctant dreamboat Robert Pattinson, expect to see Zac in an edgy, “arty” experimental flick soon.

Zac Efron’s mom gave quite an interesting stocking stuffer to her High School Musical star son - condoms!

After Zac and girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens were photographed looking at sex toys, his mom finally caught on to what the rest of the world thought was kind of obvious. “I knew you were being sexual!” she squealed.

What did she think they were doing? When your son is dating a girl who takes pictures like this, he likely is not spending his evenings playing chess with her.

When Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens go on vacay, they do it on the major DL. While Zac and Vanessa vacationed off the coast of Angra Dos Reis, Brazil as guests of the magazine Carras, the two High School Musical stars attempted to be totally undercover by having handlers shield them from the cameras with umbrellas. But still, some sneaky photographer was able to get a few photos of this hot young couple enjoying their Brazilian getaway. We told you last year (hey - look how topical we are, being down with 2009 and all that) that there were plans afoot to turn Mariah “Probably Pregnant” Carey’s life into a musical and now reports in Britain claim that superstar singer Leona Lewis could take the lead role.

“Mariah secretly likes the idea of Leona playing her. Not only is she exotic, she’s the only one who they reckon would be able to tackle Mariah’s eight-octave vocal range,” Metro reports a source as saying.

Yeah, yeah, we kind of see what you’re saying here, and it would surely be a stupid move to have Ashlee Simpson try and perform those type of vocal gymnastics. But Leona is well, so, so, *whispers it* bland. We’re not sure she’s got the right edge of crazy to bring Mimi’s magnificence to the stage. But then again, they’ve also mentioned Eva Longoria (?) and Vanessa Hudgens (???) as other possible stars to take the role. But our resolution for 2009 (along with promising not to think a day without a drug story means Amy Winehouse is getting better, and trying very hard to not think mean thoughts about Peaches Geldof) is to be more accepting, man, so let’s see what happens here. In the meantime, we’d like to come up with some equally outside-the-box casting suggestions for Tommy Mottola. To start, how about Russell Brand or Zac Efron? No? [Photos: FilmMagic, WireImage]

What is up with Leonardo DiCaprio and Zac Efron? First Leo goes to great lengths to deny he ever said anything positive about the High School Musical star. Then E! reports that Zac  chuckled “contemptuously” at the GQ Men Of The Year awards when someone suggested he might be excited to hang with Leo inside. Should we consider these dudes enemies?

…Or are they friends? The heartthrobs sat together along with Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Entourage’s Kevin Connelly at the Lakers Game on Friday. Zac seems to be doing all the work, though—putting his arm around DiCappy and chatting amiably. Leo, on the other hand, seems more interested in the game and Levine’s mugging than anything Efron says. Maybe they’re frienemies! Either that, or Zac doesn’t give a shit about basketball. The GQ “Men of the Year” Party was last night at the Chateau Marmont, drawing the hotness of Hollywood to its red carpet. The hottest of the stars posing for the paps was GQ cover girl Megan Fox. She rarely brings her long-time boyfriend Brian Austin Green to red carpet events, and now we see why. Pouty-pants-McGee, who hasn’t had a memorable role since the original 90210, clearly does not appreciate the hotness in pink hanging on his arm! At 22 years old, Megan needs to explore other options, which are surely lined up around her block.
